Startups zijn wereldwijd hot. Ook Nederland koestert deze vernieuwende bedrijven in de hoop dat ze uitgroeien tot duurzaam succesvolle ondernemingen. Maar lang niet alle startups komen overtuigend uit de startblokken. Ruim 90% verlaat de wedstrijd voortijdig. De grote uitdaging is dus om van meer startups daadwerkelijk sterren te maken. Branding kan hierbij een belangrijke rol vervullen, omdat het kan helpen een jonge onderneming bekendheid en betekenis te geven. NATO Innovation Challenge

On the 17th of June, The NATO Innovation Challenge Pitch Day took place, fully digital, powered by Get in the Ring, the world’s premier startup competition active in over 200 cities, part of Unknown Group.

During this event, with a main stage set up in Hilversum, The Netherlands, jury panels were located in Rotterdam and Norfolk (US). Attendees also had the chance to engage directly with the startup participants via organized digital round-table sessions.

Here’s to Apple

Apple, my all time favorite brand, for which I had the honor to work for at BBDO Worldwide, has become the first company to reach a $2 trillion market capitalisation. So today is the perfect day to look back on a period, not so long ago, when the company was worth just $2 billion (0.1% of its current value) and had just lost $800 million over the past 12 months.

At that exact moment Steve Jobs returned. His clear, tight brand positioning brought Apple back to life. That story, built from Apple’s own Effie submissions, is told in a short case study by Marc Ritson; see it here.
